Take the hassle out of accessing a step-over shower.

With an SB1 Showerbuddy, a traditional step-in shower with a lip is no longer a barrier to bathing. Simple transfer into shower or over the toilet, SB1 has you covered.

Freedom and comfort in the bathroom made accessible.

Mobility impairments don’t choose us based on our home’s suitability. Our life circumstances can change at a moment’s notice, requiring us to quickly make some big decisions. The truth is, many Aussies’ bathrooms are designed in a way that aren’t compatible with a disability. A large percentage of standalone showers in Australia are ‘step-in’ showers with a ‘lip’ or elevated edge that need to be cleared.  In the past, you would need to explore the option of remodelling a shower to suit reduced mobility – if that was even an option (renters could be forced to move entirely).

With the ShowerBuddy SB1, the stress of a bathroom remodel is completely taken away.

Made up of a comfortable, supportive chair unit, a transfer bridge and a shower base, the ShowerBuddy system is installed without any damage done to your existing bathroom. It also removes the need for multiple lifts by a carer between the toilet, chair and shower. And with its built in commode system and chair cover, the SB1 can come with you into other parts of the house as needed.

Shower Access will provide an assessment of the bathroom and your shower, then install the ShowerBuddy and provide a tutorial on how you, your OT and carer can use it.  In under an hour, you’ll be enjoying greater freedom and comfort in the bathroom.

Using the ShowerBuddy

Taking a shower

Using the Showerbuddy for a standard step-in shower is made possible by a user-friendly chair-bridge-base design:
  • A carer or support person can attach the chair to the bridge, installed to clear the distance between the bathroom floor and shower floor.
  • Once connected, the chair will move you across the transfer bridge into the shower base.
  • The sturdy base is kept fixed to the shower floor with suction feet.
  • With you inside the shower, the bridge is removed so the carer can provide assistance during bathing.
  • During showering, the ShowerBuddy chair can rotate to provide different positions for comfortable bathing and easier access for the carer – it works around you, not the other way around.
  • Shower’s over? The ShowerBuddy chair just connects back onto the bridge and transfers you back out of the shower onto the wheels
  • If you’re sharing a bathroom, the shower base can be removed if needed, otherwise just leave the ShowerBuddy’s base inside the shower for easy daily transfers.

Using the toilet

Showerbuddy also makes using the toilet much simpler with the help of a carer – no separate lift between shower and toilet.
  • The ShowerBuddy’s height-adjustable seat means the unit can be positioned over most standard toilets and provide a safe secure position thanks to locking wheels.
  • There are many times when the seat opening isn’t required – that’s why you can use the included cushion overlay that closes up the opening. This makes the SB1 a comfortable day chair.
  • Need a commode option at night time away from the bathroom? ShowerBuddy comes with a complete commode system including a pan, lid and the seat cover. The arms of your ShowerBuddy seat will fold back to allow bed-to-commode transfer.
